What is Qi?

Qi (pronounced chee) - also spelled Ch'i is Life Energy or Life Force.  It is the energy that sustains All of Life.  Sources of Qi include the air we breathe, the food we eat, sunlight, the Earth (which is a huge magnet), and the influences of the stars.  In Western science it is called bio-electro-magnetic energy.  Qi is also described as 'the healer within'.

With practice you may begin to feel the internal resources healing or energizing you. "People experience the healer within in a variety of ways:  "tingling", "warmth", "flowing", "humming", "fluffy",  "light".  Some people call the sensation of the inner medicine "restful",  "calm", or "tranquil".   "The Chinese say that this sensation is the Qi circulating in the body's energy channels.  This dynamic life energy is always present.  A fish is not always aware of the water;  we are not always aware of the air or the Qi.  However, if you quiet the mind and deeply relax it is possible to sense the healing resources within."- The Healer Within by Dr. Roger Jahnke.

What is Qigong and Tai Chi?

"When you cultivate Balance and Harmony within yourself, or in the world-- that is Tai Chi.  When you work and play with the essence and energy of life, nature and the universe for Healing, Clarity and Inner Peace -- that is Qigong."

Qigong (pronounced chee gung) (also spelled Chi KUng) is defined as  cultivation, refinement and mastery of your life force energy.  It is an ancient healing practice from China that is over 5,000 years old. The practice is a combination of Gentle movement and stretching, Breath practices, self-massage and meditation/mindfulness.

Tai Chi (Taiji) is defined as 'supreme ultimate balance and harmony' in all things.  It is a Chinese martial art (thought to be about 700 years old),  a type of Qigong, health exercise and moving meditation.  There are short and simple forms that contain only 5 movements (like  www.taichieasy.org) and more complicated traditional forms that contain 24, 37 42 and 108 movements.
